Uni Work

Graphic Design Degree

I am currently completing a part-time Graphic Design degree.  I have worked on; Graphic Design key concepts, illustration key concepts, and working for print.

Below is a selection of work from the last few modules.

For a more in-depth look at my university work feel free to have a look at my blog - lifesapeachuni.wordpress.com

For this exercise, I had to create a map of a bookshop using 3D drawing. The brief was to show where the different sections are located in the shop - I enjoyed drawing in this way, and creating little details that you may not notice at first glance.

This task was to create an informative instructional leaflet - I used a stand mixer instruction book as a starting point and tried to simplify it whilst using the elements of the booklet to fill white space.

This exercise was to show the miles of a fruit salad - the task was to show the distance of each part of the fruit salad.
I enjoyed drawing each element and making it easy to digest and fun to look at -  my favourite parts are the fruit stickers showing where the fruit is from!

For this part of my course, I had to do a deep dive into a online book seller - creating site maps, carrying out competitor analysis and looking into every element of their web presence.
Creating the site maps and wire frames was useful to think about the customer journey and the use of a website from start to finish.

My favourite part of this exercise was using illustration to portray sections of a storyboard. Where I have a previous experience in film this was a really fun task to carry out. I really enjoyed sketching the different panels - this style of drawing is something I really enjoy.

This exercise was a rebrand of an Italian restaurant - I really enjoyed this one, as I have a soft spot for all things Italy. I enjoyed thinking about every element of the branding, colours, typeface and where they would be used.
I think the modern take on something normally quite traditional was a bit out of my comfort zone, but think it works well, especially when used on mockups.

This web mock up is a part of an exercise where I had to create recipe cards for different recipes, using recipes and pictures from cookbooks or websites - this was all about the structure of the page and making it easy to follow when trying to cook.

Making sure to make it easy to use, but also look modern and in keeping with the recipes used, was tricky - but I think with the use of colour schemes & interesting typefaces you can keep it simple whilst adding fun elements that don't take from the information.

For this exercise I had to create a leaflet for a travel agent, using images I had taken whilst also having strict printing rules.

The task was to format a 2 page leaflet, the leaflet had to be made from an A4 sheet folded in half, with the front being full colour and the back black and white except 2 spot colours.

The minimal colour scheme whilst trying to portray something so colourful was tricky but because of layout I feel I was able to complete the task in a way I was happy with it.

This was one of my favourite tasks. I had to create a logo for a zoo.

There was a lot of research into other zoo logos and branding, making sure the logo I was creating was recognisable as a zoo but also stood out from the other logos.

I think if I was to do this again, I would simplify it slightly - this may not be the most scalable, any smaller and you may not get the same impact.

Creating these wireframes was a tricky one, as before this I hadn't created wire frames with this level of detail before.

I think this task was extremely useful for my work moving forward, as it helped me create structure with all work moving forward, thinking more about measurements and details that before I wouldn't have thought about.
